Dr Andrew Kaethler, Dean of Studies of the Buckfast Institute
Andrew grew up in Vancouver, Canada. At Trinity Western University he earned a MA in Religion, Culture, and Ethics.
His dissertation explored how the political philosopher George Grant holds together Athens (philosophy) and Jerusalem (theology). Following this he moved to Lithuania and taught theology and philosophy at LCC International University. In 2011 Andrew moved to Scotland and in 2015 received his PhD in Systematic Theology from the University of St Andrews.
His thesis examined the theological anthropology of Joseph Ratzinger and Alexander Schmemann. While living in Scotland, Andrew and his family entered into full communion with the Church—from Anglicanism to Roman Catholicism.
Most recently he was Academic Dean and Associate Professor of Theology at Catholic Pacific College.
Andrew is fascinated by all things theological but is particularly interested in the theological anthropology coming out of ressourcement theology and its compatriots.
He has published in various journals, including Modern Theology, Logos: A Journal of Catholic Thought and Culture, New Blackfriars, Religions, and Humanum Review. Andrew has co-edited two edited volumes, and his most recent monograph is The Eschatological Person: Alexander Schmemann and Joseph Ratzinger in Dialogue. Kaethler lives with his wife and six children in Buckfast.
